Space-saving damper for storage compartments

To add a sense of luxury when opening and closing storage compartments like the glove box or console box, OEMs often use dampers to create a smooth, controlled motion. However, this typically comes at the cost of storage space, as conventional dampers require extra room, reducing the compartment’s overall capacity.

To tackle this challenge, Piolax has developed the space-saving Axis damper. This innovative solution can easily be mounted onto the axis of storage compartments using screws or pins, without occupying additional volume. In addition, the one-way mechanism provides almost no resistance during manual operation when closing the glove box, console box, etc. Piolax has rigorously tested the damper through 12,000 cycles under various conditions – 10,000 cycles at 23°C, 1,000 cycles at -30°C, and 1,000 cycles again at 23°C – demonstrating no damage or malfunction.

Thanks to its small, compact design, the Axis damper not only preserves storage space but also offers significant cost benefits to OEMs. It is more affordable than traditional dampers, providing a practical and economical solution without compromising on performance or durability.
