Airlite: Lightweight mono-material acoustic technology for sustainable EV interiors

23 Jun 2026
Tuesday, June 23 - afternoon session
The transition to electric vehicles and upcoming European circular economy regulations are accelerating demand for lightweight and recyclable acoustic materials for vehicle interiors. This presentation introduces Toray Airlite, a mono-material polypropylene acoustic solution designed to meet both sustainability and NVH performance requirements. Compared with conventional felt and shoddy materials, Airlite offers significant weight reduction while maintaining high sound absorption performance. The presentation will explain the material concept, acoustic performance characteristics and advantages in recyclability and process efficiency. In addition, case examples will demonstrate how lightweight acoustic solutions can contribute to improved vehicle efficiency and sustainable interior design for next-generation EVs.
  • How circular economy regulations are reshaping acoustic material requirements for automotive interiors in Europe
  • Advantages of mono-material polypropylene acoustic solutions for recyclability and sustainable vehicle design
  • How lightweight acoustic materials contribute to improved efficiency in electric vehicles
  • Comparison of Airlite with conventional felt and shoddy acoustic materials
  • Acoustic performance characteristics of lightweight nonwoven materials for automotive NVH applications
